Car Seat Safety
Madisonville Fire Department implemented a car seat inspection program in 2014 to provide a much needed service to our community. Our technicians have been trained through Safe Kids and NHTSA ( National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Participants completed a 40 hour training class to receive their certification. MFD currently has 4 infant/child seat technicians in the department to help our community by providing this free service. MFD is committed to maintain the certifications of these technicians and add additional technicians as the need arises.
97% of car seats in KY are not correctly installed or the child is restrained improperly. Anyone wanting to get their car seat inspected and learn how to properly install and buckle a child in, are encouraged to contact Madisonville Fire Department. We will set a date and time when a technician will be available to assist you. You can expect to spend up to 30 minutes with the technician. During this time a trained professional will help you inspect your car seat as well as teach you how to install and properly use it. Information that will be reviewed:
- Proper car seat for your child based on height and weight
- Making sure your car seat has not expired and that there is no recall on any part of it
- Proper restraint strap placement for your child
- Along with some other safety tips for you and your children
